SHEDDING CYCLE
One of the central issues of postmodernist artmaking is the questioning of art’s essential vocabulary, the often ubiquitous and as such, invisible structures used to communicate visual ideas. Much of Dusanka Komnenic’s work question the assumption of these structures but does so on her own terms. Her iconography has a general roughness about it bordering on violence. Yet it is often rendered with a rich delicacy and warmth. In her work, she embraces the contradictions of humanity, the gentleness, the intelligence, the violence and brutality. She is not afraid to face the uncomfortable truths of who we are. In the honesty of her vision, the convenience of answers is not revealed, but rather the means of navigating towards truth. The unique iconography of the individual becomes the most effective language to communicate the ineffable aspects of being. Dusanka Komnenic is truly an artist that has the ability and courage to reveal her own vision.
